Looking for coins with holes in the middle.....?

I am looking for somewhere to purchase fake/replica coins that have a hole in the middle that you can thread ribbons through the hole. Its for craft stuff, but would like a UK supplier or possibly european. I have found one in China but the shipping costs are really high due to the weight of them. If anyone can help I would be most grateful. Thank you. (I dont care where in the UK it is!!)

a. any old kenyan coins have a hole in the middle if that helps.



b. old metal buttons were very decorative so perhaps another idea



c. washers from B&Q - clean and shiny can be painted with metal paint...



d. buy a drill and drill them yourself



e. use a ceramic/glass substitution?

There are many countries in the orient that made coins with holes in the middle, mostly because China did and to them "real" coins had holes. There are dealers in the UK that sell bulk chinese cash coins. They should run about 4 per pound or less. There are some good dealers on Ebay that sell them cheap, but they are from China or the US. You can buy 100 of them for less than 20 pounds including shipping if you shop around. You can get ones 2000 years old for just a little more sometimes. Vietnam also made millions of these, and you should look at Vietnamese cash coins as well.

This is assuming you want to use authentic coins, but they are so cheap why not? It will also make a good story about anything you make from them.

Well I am in Denmark I come from the UK been here many years, but we have real coins here with hole in the centre. there is a 1kroner 2kroner coin and a 5kroner coin being approx 10p 20p and 50p in UK £ss bit less. the coins are smaller the less value. maybe you can find what they look like better by going to goggle and search the coins but there silver. I am sure you can have a work around the UK banks exchange offices and ask them if they have any of these Danish coins in stock, to save on postage. or I am sure I can help you. Bless.... I have a French Franc with a hole in the middle - it's on my keyring. I've never known what the point of it is but I think my granddad drilled a hole in it so he could keep it as a memento. I didn't know they actually 'made' them for selling.



Have you tried eBay? Or just a google search? Or maybe buying in replica coins and drilling them yourself? Sorry can't be more help.

Check the craft isles in a local Wal-Mart Superstore (assuming you have them where you are). They have all sorts of stuff that might pique your crafting tastes... I know the one where I'm at sells replica Chinese coins in a little bag of five for $1.

Old Danish coins 25øre had holes on the centres, it was for blind people to distiguish from the similar sized 1 krone (crown), I dont know where you would get them nowadays they would be worth about 2p at face value.

why not make your own??..but the chinese coin is the only one i know with a hole in the middle...unless you start to use polo mints...then if you get peckish you could eat it..or try to source them from charity shops .as long as you give a donation im sure the wont mind doing a swop..

i dont know where you live but most towns have a chinese shop where you can buy these coins at really reasonable price.
